Meet Maggie: The Stunning Labradoodle Overlooked for All the Wrong Reasons
At first glance, Maggie turns heads—a likely hypoallergenic, curly-coated beauty with a big, soulful expression. But, like so many dogs, once people realize she’s more than just a pretty face, they move on.
Maggie is not a designer accessory or a living teddy bear—she is a brilliant, vibrant, joyful dog with personality and intelligence to match her looks. Sadly, that’s exactly why she keeps getting overlooked. Adopters flocked to her when they saw “Labradoodle,” but when they realized she thinks for herself, loves to learn, and needs engagement, they lost interest. The truth? Maggie isn’t difficult—she just deserves someone who appreciates the whole package.
Maggie’s Story
Maggie arrived at the Bakersfield City Shelter over the holidays, one of the worst times to end up in a high-kill shelter. At 66 lbs, she took up a kennel all to herself, and space was running out. The shelter introduced us to this playful, hopeful girl who was desperate for a second chance, and we welcomed her to the Tale Tribe just before the new year.
Since then, Maggie has thrived in foster care. She is whip-smart, already knowing “sit” and “down,” and she adores toys, playtime, and training. She has even adapted to intermittent crating, giving her foster mom breaks while helping her develop structure and independence. At just one year old, she is still a puppy—which means she needs guidance, but she’s a fast learner. A simple 20-minute training session helps manage her energy, and she loves having a job to do.
The Perfect Adventure Buddy
Maggie is built for adventure! Once her initial excitement settles, she’s fantastic on a leash, loves hiking, exploring, and even playing in water. She would thrive with an adopter who enjoys outdoor activities—the beach, the mountains, or just an active lifestyle.
Why She’s a Long-Term Resident
Despite all her wonderful qualities, Maggie is being overlooked again and again. People see “Labradoodle” and expect a low-maintenance, docile pet, but Maggie has a mind of her own and a love for life. She is incredibly rewarding for someone who values a dog with both brains and beauty.
To help her find the right match, we are reducing her adoption fee and encouraging applications from true Lab lovers—because if you love Labs, you will adore Maggie.
Don’t let this incredible dog get passed up again. Maggie is waiting for someone who sees her for who she truly is—a smart, loving, and adventurous companion ready to take on the world with you.
