Responsible Dog Ownership Month is coming!

September is Responsible Dog Ownership Month! Here are a few ways to make sure your being a responsible owner and meeting all of your pups needs:

Annual health check ups - Annual health check ups are a must for your dog. Common reasons to get your dog in for their annual vet visit include keeping your dogs shots up to date, screening for heart worms, and the expression of anal glands when needed.

A healthy diet - Keeping your dog on a healthy diet can add years to their life. Try mixing in healthy fresh foods and pour-overs to make meal time interesting for them!

Training your dog - Wether you hire a trainer or train them yourselves, training your dog is important. Obedience, manners, and recall can keep your dog safe and out of trouble.

Keeping your dog on leash - Walking your dog on leash is an important safety precaution. Even well trained dogs can run out into the street, topple over children, or get lost as a result of walking them off leash.

Regular grooming - Take your dog to the groomers or having a puppy spa day at home is a great way to show your dog you care. Keeping their nails trimmed, their teeth cleaned, and giving them regular baths are among the many things you need to do to maintain proper grooming.

Microchipping - Keep your microchip information up-to-date. If there have been any changes to your contact information, make sure to update your information on your dog’s microchip.

Picking up after your dog - Keep the areas you walk your dog clean for yourself and others to enjoy by picking up after your pup goes potty.

Providing your dog with mental stimulation - Pups need mental enrichment just as much as humans. Providing them with interactive toys, taking them on walks through new environments, or visiting a local dog park are all great ways to make your dogs life more stimulating!

Exercising - Taking your dog on routine walks or runs is great for helping them maintain a healthy weight, releasing energy, and keeping them active. Even older dogs could use a light exercise routine.

Socialization - Scheduling doggy play dates, meeting new people, obedience training, and dog park trips are great ways to socialize your dog.
